Chael Sonnen is definitely an "old school" type of fighter. He started competing in mixed martial arts around the age of 20 in 1997, and was inspired by guys like Royce Gracie and the original "Ultimate Fighters". Those fighters did not fight in any weight classes, no time limits, no rounds, and would fight whoever were in front of them. Sonnen has the same mentality, he will jump up to 205 and fight the champion Jon Jones on eight days notice. He is an "old school" fighter and really holds true to those values which were part of the original UFC.
