Jim Alers talks UFC debut, victory in Abu Dhabi, desire to fight Conor McGregor in the future

Jim Alers was victorious in his UFC debut against Alan Omer in Abu Dhabi in a hard-fought split decision. The victory was a hard-earned one which made it all the more special for Alers, who now sports a 13-1 record in mixed martial arts.

Alers, a Florida native, is a veteran of fighting in the Middle East and felt at ease leading up to the biggest fight of his career. One of the things that he felt was different was the UFC Octagon itself. "It was a lot different; the cage was huge, for one thing", notes Alers. "I felt like I had all the space in the world there to work, which also can be a disadvantage sometimes, trying to cut the guy off and stuff like that. And the material that it was, it felt a little bit different than I was used to."

As far as the future goes for Alers, he's hoping to jump back into the cage as soon as possible. The name Alers threw out after his victory to fight was Conor McGregor, who Alers was scheduled to take on in Cage Warriors for the featherweight title, before the UFC snagged McGregor into their promotion. That history in addition to McGregor referring to Alers as rubbish in media scrum, makes the Irishman an opponent Alers is interested in taking on soon.
