Daniel Cormier and Sara McMann on how tragedy has helped them in fighting
Daniel Cormier and Sara McMann are both Olympians in wrestling from America, but also share another bond in term of tragic loss and suffering. Sara McMann lost her brother in a murder and years later her fiance was killed in a car accident. Daniel Cormier also lost his three-month old daughter in a car accident. They have both suffered immense pain, but in that process have understood what it truly like to have a real bad day. And through that understanding they have realized that losing a fight is nothing in comparison to that. Oddly enough, that has helped them in competition because it has taken away the fear of losing for them. Many times the fear of failure is so overwhelming that athletes can choke when the times comes to compete. But Cormier and McMann have a more peaceful attitude towards in terms of the outcome of the competition because they know it pales in comparison to the hardship and suffering they have been through already. They are in a sense free; they are free to just go out and perform and not be bogged down by the blanketing anxiety which can hold some people down from achieving peak performance.
