Forrest Griffin on fighting and the present moment

Fighters fight for a variety of reasons, but if you listen to some athletes in mixed martial arts, one of the reasons that they are so attracted to the sport is that it takes one completely into the present moment. The mind cannot wander into any other direction other than the present moment because across from the cage is a trained killer looking to take them out.

Fighting in general I got into because for that 15 minutes nothing matters.  Your bills, your stress, your job at home, your old lady bitching at you, it fades in comparison.
